Creating and Editing a Profile:: ONID account as a Beaversource account

In order to participate in the Beaversource community (posting on walls and forums, participating in projects, and accessing protected content), you need to log and create a user profile for yourself. A user profile lets others find out more about you and helps start new interactions.

Creating a Profile

You can create your Beaversource profile simply by logging into the site, if you are a OSU student or staff member. Your ONID account is also your Beaversource account! To set things up, follow these simple steps:

1. Click Log in at the top-right corner of the Beaversource Social homepage.

2. Provide your ONID ‘username’ and ‘password’ then click Login.

3. Click the Profile tab on the Beaversource Social banner.

4. Click Edit profile to edit personal information, profile picture and profile icon.

Editing your profile on Beaversource Social is similar to many social networking sites. You can provide your location, contact information, phone number, and information about you—a short introduction and brief description of yourself, your goals, main skills, and your interests. Note: Each of these fields allows ‘access restrictions’ that limit who is able to view your information in order to protect your privacy.

Editing Your 'Interests' and 'Skills'

Make sure that each item is comma-separated and that ‘Public’ is selected in the Access Restriction drop down menu. Setting your information to 'Public' allows anyone on Beaversource to see your specified information. 'Private' only allows your friends access.

Hint: Use verbs for Interests and nouns for Skills. This way your information will merge with other user's interests and skills. For instance, if I write

Your 'Interests', 'Likes' and the Tag Cloud

Your ‘interests’ and ‘skills’ are compiled into a Tag Cloud of keywords that represent the collective inclinations of the Beaversource Social community. The size of these words is representative of their popularity. Selecting a word shows you a list of users, groups, posts, stc. who use this tag.

Adding a Profile Icon

1. Click the My Profile tab on the Beaversource Social banner.

2. Click Edit profile icon.

3. Click Browse and select an image. The site will automatically shrink your chosen image. Once you find an image, click Upload.

4. Next, using the Profile picture cropping tool, click and drag a box around the uploaded image. Once you have selected the portion of the image you want to represent your avatar, click Create your avatar. This cropped image will be used throughout the site.

5. From here, you can see that the avatar is used in exchange for your name and next to posts in groups and throughout the site.
