Wireless Communicators
1 Project Overview
This project endeavors for the creation of a fully functional, production ready, wireless hardware and software package for radio communication. Units will be extremely simple to operate, and have a very low learning curve. Single button control coupled with voice recogniton would allow for instant communication in a multitude of retail, commercial, and industrial workspaces as well as use in more extreme environments, such as search and rescue. While working on a single transmission frequency the communicators will support a “channel” like communication scheme. The Zigbee radio specification provides ranges of approximately one-hundred meters while implementing an open protocol. Through software development, ranges of over 100 meters would be capable by implementing a wireless mesh protocol with other nearby units. The communicator will feature a rechargeable battery that will be sufficient to power the unit for at least 18 hours under normal usage conditions.
A simple wireless radio would be an asset to any company looking to increase their productivity when their employees are away from their desk. Further development could incorporate the wireless radio to already in place PBX systems to allow the devices to conduct telephony. Building on the success of last year’s engineering team, this year will attempt to fulfill more of the base requirements for the hardware and software package. A final hardware design will be completed. It will require an improvement in the audio quality as well as output power and efficiency.
